The
Key Stage 4 Curriculum:
The English
Department offers students the chance to study for two separate GCSE
courses: English Language (AQA Specification A) and English
Literature (AQA Specification A). The two courses are taught
simultaneously and teachers will decide upon final entry during the
latter part of Year 11. Students are taught in sets for the GCSE
courses.
CHANGES WILL BE
MADE TO HOW THE COURSES ARE STRUCTURED AS FROM APRIL 2010.
Teachers plan their
own overview of the course for their classes, but all students will
complete the same topics and prepare for the same exams. For more
information on your child’s individual course, please contact their
English teacher.
COURSEWORK:
Coursework is a
requirement of the AQA courses. Each student MUST submit five pieces
of coursework based on the following topics:
-
Shakespeare
-
Media
-
Twentieth
Century play
-
Prose Study
-
Original
Writing
All coursework
deadlines are set by individual staff.
The marking of
draft coursework is not a requirement of the exam board; instead
it is marked at the discretion of staff. If a student fails to hand
in draft coursework or attempts to hand it in late, then
staff will not be expected to mark it.
PLAGIARISM
Students and
parents are reminded that plagiarism is a serious offence and is
dealt with severely by the Department, school and exam board. All
students should footnote sources and attach a bibliography to
coursework to identify any additional research that they may have
done.
