Key Stage 4

The ICT department has been extremely successful at KS4. In 2001 we introduced the GNVQ ICT course, equivalent to 4 GCSE's and our pass rate has been 90% plus each year.

The Government has decided to withdraw this course and as such we are at the forefront of developing and delivering its replacement the Diploma, Certificate or Award in Digital Applications. The current year 9 have started to follow the Certificate in Digital Applications (CiDA) course.

Students can achieve 2 GCSE grades A*-C  in ICT.

CIDA Course Outline

CiDA is short for the Certificate in Digital Applications. This is the replacement for the GNVQ and is equivalent to 2 GCSE's.

There is no final exam in this course. Instead students need to complete one unit to achieve the AIDA (Award in Digital Applications) or two units to achieve the CiDA (Certificate in Digital Applications).

The DiDA suite contains four units:

  1. Using ICT
  2. Multimedia
  3. Graphics
  4. ICT in Enterprise

Unit 1 is compulsory and to achieve the CiDA students need to complete one more unit. At present materials are still being produced by Edexcel, and the department will make a decision in the new year on what other unit we will follow once we see the materials.

Students complete a practice SPB (Summative Project Brief) for each unit. Once they have acquired the relevant skills they undertake the "live" SPB which is produced by Edexcel. Each "live" SPB has a one year shelf life and must be completed within the year. Edexcel produce the SPB in October and schools have from January to December of the following year to complete the project.
