Welcome to the Performing Arts
Department...
Shirley
High school has a purpose built performing arts department. The
department was officially opened in October 2002, and was further
extended in 2006. The performing arts department consists of two
music rooms (both equipped with 25X Apple iMac computers running
Garageband and Sibelius software), a mirrored dance studio and a
drama studio (These two areas can be opened to provide a performance
area which has recently been equipped with fold away seating, sound
and lighting). In addition to these things we also have a fully
equipped music/recording studio (with a digital ten track mixing
desk) and five practice rooms.
The
above are just some of the requirements Shirley High needed to be
awarded the Performing Arts College status which was achieved in
2005, and as a result we are expanding our performing arts courses
into a 6th form year. As well as offering GCSE Music, Drama and
Dance we now offer a BTEC Performing Arts course for our 6th Form
year.
New courses will be
run for pupils as well as for the local community, and stronger
links made with local Primary and Secondary schools, and local
businesses. Overall, the aim is to improve teaching and learning and
further improve standards not just in music, dance and drama but
across the whole curriculum.

Would you like to help out?
Are there any Parents or Friends of the School who would like to
help with the Performing Arts Productions, or organise
extra-curricular activities?
This does not need to be a big commitment.
We are looking for help in organising refreshments or raffles
during the interval at our three main productions.
You may have an interest in costume making, scenery design or
want to help back-stage.
We would be pleased to hear from anyone who is interested or has
expertise in these fields.
Perhaps you have an interest or an expertise you would like to
share with the students.

Community Activities in
Dance, Drama & Music
Are you interested in
Dance, Drama or Music activities? Would you like to attend a
community activity in the evening or at a weekend here at Shirley
High School?
What sort of activity would
you be interested in? What time slot would be most convenient for
you to attend and how much would you be willing to pay for each
workshop? Perhaps you would prefer an adult only workshop or
something which involves the whole family.
